The Gifts, From Paxton's Own Reports
DOCUMENTED. Every itemized contribution from Anosh Ahmed in the Texas Ethics Commission's records went to two people. To Ken Paxton:
| Date of gift | Name as filed | Employer as filed | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oct. 24, 2022 | Anosh Ahmed | Anosh Inc | $15,000 |
| Dec. 10, 2022 | Anosh Ahmed MD | $25,000 | |
| Dec. 19, 2023 | Anosh Ahmed (two entries) | Anosh Inc | $50,000 |
| Feb. 11, 2024 | Anosh Ahmed MD | $25,000 | |
| May 28, 2024 | Anosh Ahmed | Self employed | $50,000 |
| July 15, 2024 | Anosh Ahmed | Self | $25,000 |
| Total | $190,000 | ||
The two Dec. 19, 2023 entries sit on the same report for $25,000 each; the Old Goat counts both, and the total matches the $190,000 in press accounts. Where the filings list his city, it is Houston.
The Date That Matters
REPORTED. On Friday, July 12, 2024, federal prosecutors in Chicago announced that a grand jury had indicted Anosh Ahmed, the former chief financial officer of Loretto Hospital, a safety-net hospital on the city's West Side, on eight counts of wire fraud, four of embezzlement and three of money laundering. Sameer Suhail, a medical-supply company owner, was charged alongside him. Prosecutors say they paid hospital money to fake vendors for goods never delivered, about $15 million in all. DOCUMENTED. Paxton's campaign reported Ahmed's last gift, $25,000, as received on Monday, July 15, 2024: three days after the indictment was announced. Paxton's campaign listed it on the report it filed in January 2025. DOCUMENTED: the Old Goat searched every expenditure in the Texas Ethics Commission data for a payment back to Ahmed, from Paxton or anyone else, and found none. INFERENCE: whether the campaign knew of the charges that weekend is not shown by the filing. What the filings show is a gift reported and no refund reported.
New Year's Eve, Dubai
REPORTED. The Wall Street Journal published video, later confirmed by The New York Times, from a New Year's Eve party in Dubai on Dec. 31, 2024, where Paxton and Tracy Duhon, reported to be his girlfriend, watched fireworks over the Burj Khalifa. The Journal, as relayed by Fox 4 and Newsweek, says the two men there were Ahmed and Suhail; The Times's account names Suhail and Duhon on camera, and the Journal says details of the gathering appear in court filings. Both men were by then charged federal fugitives abroad. Paxton's campaign has not said who paid for the trip or why he was there. Fox 4 →
REPORTED (Newsweek; Fox 4). Ahmed was arrested in Serbia on Nov. 30, 2025, on an Interpol red notice, and has pleaded not guilty both to the Loretto charges and to a separate alleged COVID-19 testing fraud involving at least $195 million in government payments. Asked about the trip, Paxton adviser Nick Maddux said Paxton "has been politically persecuted for years." Newsweek →
The Second Campaign
DOCUMENTED. On June 30, 2025, the campaign of Aaron Reitz reported a contribution of $99,894.26 from "ANOSH AHMED," self-employed, with the country listed as the United Arab Emirates. Reitz, a former senior aide to Paxton, had just left a Senate-confirmed Justice Department post and was running to succeed Paxton as attorney general.
REPORTED. The Dallas Morning News reported the gift in July 2025. Reitz said the gift was legal and that he would reserve judgment until a court ruled. He finished fourth in the March 2026 Republican primary. Dallas News →
INFERENCE. A man charged with stealing from a safety-net hospital on Chicago's West Side kept writing campaign checks in Texas: first to the attorney general, then, from abroad and nearly a year after his indictment, to a candidate running to replace him.
Where Paxton's Money Comes From Now
DOCUMENTED, from the site's earlier reading of FEC filings. Paxton is now the Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate. Elon Musk gave the Senate Leadership Fund $75 million on Sept. 9 and $83 million on Sept. 23; each time, the fund sent the same amount to Texas PAC, reported as the group set up to back Paxton, the next day. OPINION. The Old Goat does not know why the attorney general of Texas spent New Year's Eve with two men his own federal counterparts were hunting. Paxton could answer that in one sentence: who paid for the trip. He has not.
